Criminal Justice Careers - Job Description of Police Officers
The job of Police Officer is another Criminal Justice Career offering many different options. If you asked most people what they thought a day in the life of a Police Officer was chances are you would get several different answers with most similar to what you see on TV. In reality the job of a Police officer can be as simple as directing traffic to being the first on the scene of an armed robbery. A simple definition of a Police Officer is those sworn to protect the lives and property against crime. Most Police Agencies require the applicant to be at least a high school graduate with more and more agencies looking for some sort of advanced training. Typically as part of the application process a perspective Police Officer must pass both pshychological and physical tests in order to be awarded the position of Police Officer. Often times applicants must pass an interview before a board or Senior Officers of the department he will be working for. Many of these interviews are designed to be rigorous to see how the perspective officer does under stress. These are excellent jobs with many different career paths as one builds experience. One of the many paths is to pursue an advanced degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited school. Achieving a degree will help the officers chances of advancement within his own department or another law enforcement agency.
